Specular Reflectors

Delamping existing fluorescent luminaires and fitting purpose designed specular reflectors is a proven method of increasing lighting efficiency and reducing energy costs, while allowing illumination levels to be maintained.

Specular+ reflectors use silver for the reflective surface. Unlike other materials, whose reflectance can change considerably due to oxidation, Specular+ maintains a specular reflectance of 95% and an overall reflectance of 97%. Aggressively bonded to 0.5mm treated aluminium it is ideal for producing rigid, precision, quality, specular reflectors.

Specular reflectance is important. A white painted surface may have an overall reflectance of up to 87% but a major component of this is diffuse reflectance. Whatever the profile of the reflector, if the light is diffused it will not all be directed downwards where required, leaving light "trapped" in the luminaire.

Assessing lighting requirements and installing properly designed specular reflectors, to achieve those requirements, offers building owners and facility managers an opportunity to make meaningful energy savings. (In most cases with a commercially economic payback based on energy savings alone).
